The Gainesville girls and boys golf teams wrapped up their seasons this week in the Class AAAAAA state golf tournaments.
The boys, playing at Woodmont Golf and Country Club in Canton, finished third (603) behind state champion Johns Creek (556) and state runner-up Creekview (582).
Alex Hughes carded the lowest score for the Red Elephants as he tied for 12th with a 5-over 149. Each of Gainesville’s participants finished in the top 40 out of field of more than 150 golfers: Andrew Hughes and Zayne Hilderbrand (T25), Price Embry (T31), Ryan Davidson and Sam Patterson (T39).
On the girls’ side, Gainesville (511) finished fifth behind state champion Johns Creek (434), state runner-up Northview (471), Valdosta (495), and Dalton (509).
Morgan Nichol carded the lowest score for the Lady Red Elephants as she tied for 17th, shooting a 163 over the two days at Cobblestone Golf Club in Acworth.
The girls placed three other golfers in the top 40: Catherine Cook (T27), Vivian Robinson (T30), and Karina Collins (T34).
